Gabriela joined the Parental Employment Programme in December 2025 while studying for a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification. She wanted to gain practical experience in a school setting to support her career goals.
Support & Development
Through one-to-one sessions, Gabriela received tailored support, including creating a CV, exploring opportunities, and applying to local schools. Her previous volunteering experience and bilingual skills in Portuguese and Spanish were highlighted to strengthen her applications.
Opportunity Secured
Through employer engagement, Gabriela was introduced to St Mark’s Primary School and successfully secured a volunteering placement after attending a meeting.
Progress & Impact
Gabriela now volunteers twice a week, gaining hands-on classroom experience, building confidence, and applying her learning in a real-world environment.
Looking Ahead
With continued support, Gabriela is working towards securing a paid Teaching Assistant role, demonstrating how practical experience and tailored guidance can support parents into education careers.
